Detail from "Suffer the Children," 18x21 pencil sketch, a study of Carl Bloch

This measures 18x21" including the frame.  It is pencil and charcoal on archival paper.  The frame is refurbished and hand-gilded by Tiffiny Shults. The original painting was done in the 1800s by celebrated religious artist Carl Bloch.

Why I chose to do this particular sketch:  Carl Bloch (1834-1890) is one of my favorite religious painters because of the personal detail he includes in each painting.  From the facial expressions to the way Christ is holding the hands of the children--all of Bloch's artwork draws me in and speak to me.
