click to view galleryWhen Fine Artichoke printmaker Madeleine Stern started working on these delightful handmade labels, she imagined them nestled in the front endpapers of favorite cookbooks. Like Madeleine, we love the idea of bookplates; they speak of a tradition of lending books and passing them down through generations. Good stuff. But we knew the moment we saw ‘em that these labels would make themselves useful throughout the kitchen. They’re perfect for anyone who gives homemade jams, pickles, preserves or baked good as gifts. You might even slap them on a recipe card the next time you give away that “top-secret” formula for the family banana bread.
These hand-printed, self-adhesive works-of-art come in packs of twelve, each featuring Madeleine’s lovely drawings of thyme, rosemary, oregano, parsley, cilantro and basil.

Recipe
La Cote Basque’s Dacquoise:
This most amazing cake is worth the effort on special occasions. Also, it tastes even better the next day. The recipe comes from La Cote Basque chef Jean-Pierre Mason from 1979, by way of a Saveur article by Kathleen Brennan, by way of my Mom’s recipe files. It really is AMAZING (1 lb. butter in the buttercream!)!
To get your mouth watering, here are some of the ingredients: hazelnuts, almonds, coffee, cream and chocolate. For step by step instructions, including pictures (thankyou Saveur!) go to:
